INDIANAPOLIS – Southern Indiana police have arrested a man accused of using an ax to smash windows and damage computers at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bloomington.
The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/ZbIdpI) that Bloomington police arrested 27-year-old Benjamin D. Curell on Thursday on preliminary burglary and criminal mischief charges.
Capt. Joseph Qualters said Curell vandalized the clinic about 4 a.m. Thursday, splashing red paint on the building.
The Ellettsville man is alleged to have attributed his actions to his religious beliefs, saying that Planned Parenthood employees murder babies.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana President and CEO Betty Cockrum said the clinic’s front door was destroyed and the front office and some equipment were heavily damaged, but she says the clinic’s damage is still being assessed.
No one was in the building at the time.
