TinCaps come home on losing streak

A rousing start to the season ended with a thud Wednesday as the TinCaps ended a seven-game road trip with a 9-7 loss to West Michigan before 1,134 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Mich.

After winning the first three games to begin the season, the TinCaps (3-3) have lost three straight, with a postponement in between.

The fatal blow Wednesday was a 6-run Whitecaps (4-2) fifth inning that erased a 5-3 TinCaps lead. West Michigan’s Mike Hernandez had a two-run single, and Austin Schotts had a two-run double. Schotts later stole home to cap the scoring.

For the TinCaps, Mallex Smith, Jeremy Baltz and Corey Adamson all had two hits.

Reliever Tayron Guerreo (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs (one earned) on five hits in 2/3 of an inning. Starter Walker Weickel gave up three runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
