Abell might not be all for IU

Hoosiers' scholarship situation still murky

A day ago, Indiana fans were wondering when the axe would fall on one of the Hoosiers' current players.

Friday, it did. Sophomore guard Remy Abell announced his intentions to transfer to another program in search of more playing time and a better suited style of play.

But chatter on the recruiting trail suggests there might be more movement to come.

According to various reports, IU is involved with 2013 point guard Jaren Sina, a former Northwestern recruit who was released from his letter of intent with the program after the Wildcats fired coach Bill Carmody.

While the seriousness of the Hoosiers' recruitment of Sina is uncertain, it seems they were looking for a contingency plan should something like this happen. Reports from recruiting sites and other outlets vary in their evaluation of just how interested both parties are in each other.

If IU were to pick up Sina , then the Hoosiers would be right back in the same spot they were in just before 11 p.m. Friday. And that means another player will have to go.

These are things that happen behind the scenes, and more often than not – much like Friday – we don't know about them until they happen. We often don't know the real reasons for these departures, either, and it turns into conjecture pretty quickly.

What we do know is this: Right now, IU's oversigning problem is resolved. It isn't certain how interested the Hoosiers are in Sina, but they are looking at the guard, who is also heavily considering Alabama. And from the look of things, there is a chance the staff has some inkling that another current player might be considering the move Abell made today.

We will continue to monitor this situation, of course, as time goes on. Stay with us.
