A 74-year-old woman found unresponsive in a pond in South Whitley died Sunday, according to Indiana conservation officers.
Bonnie Knetter, who had Alzheimers disease, lived in an apartment at 7550 Whitley County Road W. 500 S. Her relatives came to check on her Sunday morning, but she was not in her home, conservation officers said.
Knetters family searched the vicinity and found her in the pond a few hundred feet from her home. Authorities were dispatched to the pond about 10:50 a.m., and Knetter was pulled from the water, conservation officers said.
Medics pronounced her dead at the scene. An autopsy is planned today to determine her cause of death.
