New library books

The following new books about families and relationships are available at the Hessen Cassel Branch of the Allen County Public Library.

•“Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy” by Emily Bazelon

This book will help parents, educators and teens better understand what kids are going through today and what can be done to help them.

•“Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World” by Phillip C. McGraw

Dr. Phil tells the ugly truth about the users, abusers and overall “bad guys” in our lives and reveals how they exploit you and those you love.

•“Raise Him Up: A Single Mother’s Guide to Raising a Successful Black Man Taken From the Book of Acts” by Derrick Moore

Each chapter relates a spiritual point from the Biblical book of Acts and draws parallels to the struggles of the modern day African-American mother. The book also offers stories of African-American athletes who were raised by single moms and succeeded.

•“Do I Look Like an ATM? A Parent’s Guide to Raising Financially Responsible African American Children” by Sabrina Lamb

This book provides advice with exercises for parents and young people to help them establish new financial behaviors.
