2 accused of drug sales in kids’ presence

A Fort Wayne couple were formally charged Wednesday with cocaine and child neglect, accused of selling the drug in front of their two children.

Sonia and Dillon Starkey, both 26, were each charged with felony dealing a controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance and neglect of a dependent, court documents said.

Both were being held at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $55,000 bail.

According to court documents, a search warrant was issued for the Starkeys’ home in the 2200 block of Cortland Avenue on April 11 after officers bought heroin from Dillon Starkey on March 29 and Sonia Starkey on April 1.

The drug transactions took place in front of two children, a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, court documents said.

While completing a search of the Starkeys’ home, police found several bags of heroin, two rifles, one shotgun, one handgun and paraphernalia used to make the drug, court records said.
