Michigan States hopes to contend for a Big Ten title next season got a boost Thursday when Gary Harris announced hes coming back for his sophomore season.
Later in the day, Michigan got similar good news when Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary announced they were coming back to Michigan for their sophomore years, hoping to form the nucleus of the Wolverines next national title contender.
Playing in the NBA is definitely a goal of mine, and something that Ive always dreamed of, but those dreams can wait for another day, Harris said in a statement released by the school. I think additional experience and maturity will be huge in my development as a player. I have other dreams of things I want to accomplish, both as a player and as a team at Michigan State. I love college life, and Im no hurry to move on.
Michigan has lost national player of the year Trey Burke and guard Tim Hardaway Jr. to the draft, but now the Wolverines can expect to return three starters from a team that reached the NCAA title game this season.
Robinson, the son of the former Purdue star with the same name, started all 39 games for Michigan this season and averaged 11 points.
The 6-foot-10 McGary averaged only 7.5 points per game this season, but in the NCAA tournament he averaged 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds.
Jordan, Rutgers reach agreement
Los Angeles Lakers assistant Eddie Jordan has reached a tentative five-year contract to take over as coach of the scandal-marred Rutgers program. Jordan is a former Rutgers player.
The five-year agreement comes just more than two weeks after Rutgers fired Mike Rice after a video was aired that showed him grabbing and kicking players and using anti-gay slurs.
Washington leading scorer C.J. Wilcox has bypassed a chance to enter the NBA draft and will return for his senior season.
