Bryson Scott, the 6-foot-2 Northrop senior guard who was fourth in the voting for Mr. Basketball, was presented the Tiffany Gooden Award on Monday at the annual All-SAC and All-Northeast Indiana basketball awards ceremony at the Walb Union on the IPFW campus. The event is sponsored by The Journal Gazette and Sport ONE Ortho Northeast.
The award is presented to the most outstanding boys or girls basketball player in the Summit Athletic Conference.
Scott, who averaged 23.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals, became the first Northrop recipient of the award, which began in 1994 when Snider All-America Tiffany Gooden won the original honor.
Scott, who will attend Purdue next season, led Northrop (19-8) to three consecutive SAC tournament championships as well as a sectional title this season before the Bruins lost to New Haven in the regional semifinals at Marion.
Concordia coach Josh Eggold, who guided the Cadets to the Class 3A state runner-up, and North Side's Shabaz Khaliq, who guided the Redskins to the SAC regular season title, were co-SAC Boys Coaches of the Year. South Side girls coach Juanita Goodwell, who led the Archers to the Class 4A state runner-up, was the SAC Girls Coach of the Year.
