Thanks to "overwhelming public response," two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of a Muscular Dystrophy Association collection can at a northeast Indiana store.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department said a posting on its Facebook page reached more than 30,000 people in just more than four hours, and was shared more than 600 times.

Within 24 hours of the posting, Garrison A. Beitz, 27, of Waterloo, and Monica S. Babin, 42, of Kendallville had turned themselves in, according to a statement issued by the sheriff's department.

The department credited the wide exposure for many tips identifying the suspects.

The donation can containing $50 to $100 was reported taken from the South Milford Landing gas station on Tuesday.

The sheriff's department said Beitz has been preliminarily charged with theft and is facing three warrants out of DeKalb, Noble and Elkhart counties. It said Babin has been preliminarily charged with theft.
