TinCaps hold off Bowling Green

Mallex Smith went 3 for 4 and the TinCaps defeated Bowling Green 3-2 on Wednesday night, ending a seven-game road losing streak.

In the top of the first inning, Fort Wayne’s Gabriel Quintana’s RBI double got the scoring started. That was followed by Diego Goris’ run on a passed ball and Corey Adamson’s RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

But Bowling Green chipped away, getting Marty Gantt’s sacrifice fly for a run in the second inning and Gantt’s RBI triple in the fourth. Gantt was 1 for 3 in the game.

Fort Wayne (10-8) used four pitchers – Walker Weickel, John Hussey, Christopher Nunn and Roman Madrid – who combined to allow four hits and strike out eight batters from Bowling Green (14-5).

Madrid got the save after striking out two batters with a man on second in the bottom of the ninth.
