BUSINESSWOMAN TO SING AT INDY: Lindsey Kraner, owner and creative director of Vocal Power Academy Studio in Fort Wayne, will sing the national anthem at Carburetion Day on May 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.


•Troy Bigelow, an Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast English instructor, has written his first book of poetry, “Resuscitivity.” The book has been awarded the Transcontinental Poetry Award and is available at He will have book signings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Garrett Public Library in Garrett and at 6:30 p.m. May 6 at the Eckhart Public Library in Auburn.

WINNERS: Trevor Wise, a fifth-grader at Leo Elementary School, Leo-Cedarville, was named as a first-place winner in the Hoosier ReLeaf national essay contest for middle school students. Also, 150 fifth-graders will assemble at Garrett Middle School in Garrett for a tree-planting at 2 p.m. for Liberty Chaney, who received honorable mention.
