2 felonies alleged in boy’s beating

Waikel

A badly injured 2-year-old boy is hospitalized with a skull fracture and a number of other injuries, and his mother’s live-in boyfriend is accused of hurting him.

Bradley V. Waikel, 24, is accused of felony battery of a child younger than 14 resulting in serious bodily injury and of felony neglect, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Sheriff’s detectives and officials from the Indiana Department of Child Services were contacted by the emergency room at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw shortly after noon Thursday about the boy.

The sheriff’s department said the investigation led them to a home in the area of 1400 E. County Road 550 South, Warsaw, where Waikel had been living while dating the boy’s mother.

The child was transferred from Kosciusko Community Hospital to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis with injuries to his head and groin area, the department said.

Waikel was being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $100,000 bail.
