Police chase ends in Steuben crash

Steuben County police pursued a Fremont man in an SUV for about seven miles Thursday night before he lost control and crashed, according to the sheriff’s department.

At 10 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a black Chevrolet Tahoe at Fox Lake Road and Darling Street in Angola because of a traffic violation.

The Tahoe driver, later identified as Travis Cusick, 38, stopped briefly and then sped away, the sheriff’s department said.

Cusick led police on a chase for several miles, and he lost control of the Tahoe and crashed along Johnson Lake Road, east of County Road 200 East, the sheriff’s department said.

Paramedics took him to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne to be treated for injuries. He was in fair condition Friday evening, hospital staff said.

Cusick has not been charged. The Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for possible charges.
