For an inning-and-a-half, it was a lost cause.
Then the Heritage Patriots baseball team made common cause.
Down by six runs after North Side scored three in the first and four in the second, the Patriots rallied with three in their half of the second, then tacked on four more runs to pull out an 8-7 win at Heritage.
And it was a team effort. Landon Harris went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Conner Sheehan and Collin Evans each had two hits.
Alex McKinstry had a grand slam for North Side.

ADAMS CENTRAL 5, BLUFFTON 2: Isaac Luginbill had two doubles, Kyle Baker another and Conner Lengerich clubbed his third home run of the season for the Flying Jets.
Adams Central used a three-run fifth to prevail.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 4, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 2: Aaron Jones threw a five-hitter and Blackhawk scored all four of their runs in the first two innings at Blackhawk.
ANGOLA 25, NORTH SIDE 3: Katie Goings drove in six runs and scored four more as the Hornets plated 12 runs in the second inning to win in five innings.
HOMESTEAD 16, NEW HAVEN 8: A four-run second and a five-run seventh lifted the Spartans at New Haven.
Tori Strelec struck out 12 and Alexis Vargo went 5 for 5 with four doubles.
LAKEWOOD PARK CHRISTIAN 5, EAST NOBLE 2: Mikeila Boroff pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven at Lakewood Park. Hannah Priskorn went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
CONCORDIA 14, GARRETT 2: Alex Rosswurm had four hits and the visiting Cadets pounded out 10 all told to win in six innings.
Concordia scored nine of its runs in the last two innings.
WEST NOBLE 4, CHURUBUSCO 0: Kelsie Peterson pitched a five-hit shutout for host West Noble, striking out six.
HOMESTEAD 5, CONCORDIA 0: The Spartans didn’t lose a set to remain unbeaten (8-0).
CARROLL 5, NORTH SIDE 0: At Carroll, the Chargers dropped just three total games to post their 14th win in 15 matches.
LEO 167, BELLMONT 168, SNIDER 195: Chase Ellsworth (36) and Corey Coshow (40) led all scorers for Bellmont, but Leo got 41s from Chandler Reinking and Kent Kimura and a 42 from Nate Morris to win by a stroke.
BISHOP DWENGER 153, WOODLAN 196, NEW HAVEN 204: At Coyote Creek, Cal Elzey, Drake Eifert and Pat Allgeier all shot 38s to lead the Saints.
