Leo takes ACAC tennis championship

Leo won the ACAC girls tennis title Saturday at Adams Central.

The Lions went 3-0, with Adams Central 2-1, Bluffton 1-2 and South Adams 0-3 in the dual round-robin format.

Leo’s Cassie Aker and Brooke Seibel were the doubles champions, and Adams Central’s Lydia Johnson won the singles title.


HERITAGE 6, LEO 4: The visiting Patriots came up with their second big ACAC win in three days in knocking off the previously unbeaten Lions.

Heritage (7-5, 4-0 ACAC) had beaten Class 2A No. 2 Adams Central on Thursday.

Leo fell to 13-1 overall and 4-1 in the ACAC.

Andrew Saalfrank got the win and Conner Sheehan, who beat the Jets on Thursday, picked up the save.

CARROLL 7, WAYNE 3: The Chargers beat the Generals in the consolation game of the Plymouth Tournament. Luke Brunner was 2 for 2 with two RBI for Carroll.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 3, NEW CASTLE 2: The host Vikings held off the Trojans for the North Central Conference win.

Huntington North (11-3, 5-0) had a 3-1 lead after the second inning before New Castle scored a run in the sixth.


NORWELL INVITATIONAL: South Adams won the team title with a 351 at Timberridge in Bluffton. Cal Clouser of South Adams was the medalist with an 82.


LAKEWOOD PARK 6-5, HOMESTEAD 1-0: Jaclyn Delagrange knocked in four runs in two games for the visiting Panthers. Jamie Budreau gave up one run and six hits in the first game, and Mikeila Boroff threw the shutout with 13 strikeouts in Game 2 for Lakewood Park.

JAY COUNTY 2-3, ADAMS CENTRAL 0-4: Madi Schwartz had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as the host Jets won the second game and preserved the doubleheader split. Mary Fox was 3 for 3 with two RBI for Adams Central in the second game.


ANGOLA INVITATIONAL: Carroll won the team title with 45 points, with Angola second at 24. Carroll won all five individual titles: Rachel Sutton (No. 1 singles), Ashley Hoagland (No. 2 singles), Jenna Jackson (No. 3 singles), Audrey Mallers and Mackenzie Schoeff (No. 1 doubles) and Taylor Stanchin and Catherine Curtis (No. 2 doubles).

BISHOP LUERS 5, SOUTHWOOD 0: The Knights improved to 9-0 with the home win. Luers’ Andrea Choka and Courtney Witte won at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, 6-1, over Jordan Vielee and Sofia Draper.
