Warsaw mom held in beating of girl, 4

Harris

A Warsaw woman has been preliminarily charged with battering her 4-year-old daughter.

Sherena Michele Harris, 26, was being held in the county jail on $2,000 bond, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies and officials from the Department of Child Services went to a home in the 1600 block of East County Road 200 North on Monday to inspect a home.

As caseworkers interviewed Harris, police said, they saw what appeared to be bruises on the girl.

Harris was brought to the sheriff’s department to continue the interview and subsequently told police she struck her daughter with a belt and had previously taped her mouth shut.

Harris was arrested on preliminary charges of felony battery resulting in bodily injury to a victim younger than 14, as well as felony neglect of a dependent.

Officers and the county prosecutor’s office are continuing to investigate.
