    Top-ranked Andrean beat No. 3 Bishop Luers 17-15 Saturday in a 3A semistate at Luersfield as the reigning state champion 59ers earned a trip to the Class 3A state finals.

    A Snider team that had gotten to the Class 5A semistate by forcing its opponents into untimely mistakes was eliminated Friday largely thanks to its own errors.

Carroll clinches share of NHC tennis title

The final score may have been lopsided – Carroll won 5-0 – but the matches were prolonged as three went the full three sets against Homestead.

And the Chargers (16-1, 6-0 NHC) clinched at least a share of the conference championship Tuesday.

At No. 3 singles, Ashley Hoagland defeated Mary Rajchel 7-5, 1-6, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Mackenzie Schoeff and Audrey Mallers defeated Allison Overlander and Jenay Andrews 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

And at No. 2 doubles, Taylor Stanchin and Catherine Curtis beat Andrea Stephens and Leah Rumancik 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, as the Spartans lost for the first time this year.


ADAMS CENTRAL 6, LEO 5: In Leo-Cedarville, the Flying Jets got three runs in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring and get the win over the No. 3 team in Class 3A. Kyle Baker was 3 for 3 with two runs and a double for Adams Central, No. 2 in Class 2A. Isaac Soldner was 3 for 4. Leo’s Treg Haberkorn was 3 for 4.

NORWELL 2, DEKALB 0: In Ossian, the Knights’ Luke Hunter struck out eight and allowed four hits for the shutout.

DeKalb’s Dylan Cagle allowed only three hits and struck out five in the loss.

NORTHROP 5, BISHOP LUERS 3: Joey Filosa pitched a one-hitter for the Bruins at home. Charlie Sipe and Colin Brockhouse both had two doubles for Northrop.

HOMESTEAD, CARROLL, ppd.: With the game tied at 7 in the 11th inning, a malfunction with the lights forced postponement until today at 4:30 p.m.


BISHOP LUERS 166, WAYNE 196: Joe Leja’s 2-over 38 at Brookwood paced the Knights.

DEKALB 168, BELLMONT 172: In Auburn, Spencer Shoemaker posted a 1-under 34 and for the Barons. Bellmont’s Chase Ellsworth shot a 40.

NORWELL 198, NEW HAVEN 216: In Ossian, Tanner Mathews’ 41 at Timber Ridge led the Knights to victory. Jack Williams added a 49.

New Haven was led by Ben Griggs’ 50.


ANGOLA 12, WESTVIEW 4: In Topeka, Claire Grubb was 4 for 5 with a double, three RBI and two stolen bases for the Hornets.

LAKEWOOD PARK CHRISTIAN 8, CONCORDIA 0: Mikeila Boroff struck out 12 and allowed two hits for the victory at Concordia.

Kelsey Mosley was 2 for 4 with a run and three RBI, and Jaclyn Delagrange was 2 for 4 with three RBI.
