Shooting death results in 90-year sentence

SOUTH BEND – A judge has sentenced a northern Indiana man to 90 years in prison on murder and other charges from the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brice Webb apologized in court Monday for killing 21-year-old Cherlyn Reyes in their South Bend apartment, but said the October 2009 shooting was an accident and that he “truly loved her.”

The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/128j12i ) the St. Joseph County judge sentenced Webb to 60 years for murder and added 30 years for a habitual offender conviction.

Webb was convicted of murder last month in a retrial. The Indiana Supreme Court last year threw out his original murder conviction.
