    In three matches over the last 12 months, this is the quickest Carroll has been able to get out of the Homestead gym with a win. The Chargers beat Homestead 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 on Tuesday in a Class 4A regional.

    Concordia defeated Fairfield 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-7) in the Class 3A volleyball regional to advance to the semistate semifinals. Tionna Williams led the Cadets with eight aces, 13 kills and 11 digs.

Bellmont Sectional could have top-10 finale

The championship game of the Bellmont Sectional on Memorial Day could pit two Class 3A top-10 baseball teams against each other. The IHSAA released the postseason draw Tuesday.

Second-ranked Norwell will play the host Braves on May 22, while No. 8 Whitko has Eastbrook on May 24.

The Knights still would have to face the winner of the Mississinewa-Heritage game in the sectional semifinals. But the two teams could meet May 27 in the 1 p.m. championship game.

Leo, ranked No. 3 in 3A, will play Garrett on May 23 in the Angola Sectional.

In 4A, No. 5 Northrop will open up Carroll Sectional play against North Side on May 22.

In 2A, No. 2 Adams Central has Churubusco on May 27 in its first game of the Bishop Luers Sectional.

Girls track

NORTHROP SECTIONAL: The host Bruins scored 132 points to easily outdistance Snider and Carroll (105 each). Dejah Arnold won the 100 and 400 meters in 12.46 and 55.92 seconds, Amber McGee won the 200 in 25.15, and the Bruins won the 400 and 1,600 relays in 47.83 and 3 minutes, 56.44 seconds. Symone Black (100 and 300 hurdles, 14.36 and 43.08) won two individual events for Concordia, setting sectional records in both.

WARSAW SECTIONAL: The host Tigers piled up 178 points to win over Northridge (85) and Elkhart Central (83). The Tigers won seven events, led by Ann Harvuot’s double in the 100 and 200 in 12.61 and 25.96. The others: Tennie Worrell (400, 1:00.5), Sarah Ray (3,200, 11:13.34), Jamie Lacheta (high jump, 5 feet, 4 inches), Samantha Jensen (discus, 114-11) and the 400 relay (49.91).

ANGOLA SECTIONAL: DeKalb scored 122.5 points to beat out East Noble (94) and host Angola (93) for the title, and Kendall Kelley was largely responsible.

Kelley won the 100 (13.01), 200 (26.98), 400 (58.98) and long jump (16-11 1/2 ) for the Barons, who also got wins from Hayley Gibson (high jump, 5-2) and Kara Eck (shot put, 40-11 1/2 ).


WOODLAN 2, HERITAGE 0: Hannah Robbins struck out 17 batters in a two-hit shutout.

CARROLL 3, LEO 2: The visiting Chargers pushed across the winning run in the top of the seventh.


NORTHROP 11, SOUTH SIDE 1: Tyler Huth pitched a no-hitter for Northrop, which scored in every inning in a five-inning win.
