Eyeing IU

Indiana makes Evan Gordon signing official

The Indiana athletics department announced the signing of Arizona State transfer Evan Gordon, who has signed his letter of intent to play for the Hoosiers.

Gordon gave his commitment Wednesday, but IU had to wait until the official paperwork came through to comment on Gordon's pledge.

"We are excited to have Evan Gordon join our university and our program," IU coach Tom Crean said in a statement. "Evan has been a productive and proven player throughout his college career. He can score, he makes his teammates better and is a clutch player. Defensively, his physical strength and speed have helped him be a strong individual and team defender."

The Hoosiers will also benefit from the experience of the graduate transfer, who averaged 10.1 points for the Sun Devils last season.

"Evan will bring leadership, a work ethic and seriousness that will help make our program better," Crean said in the statement.

Gordon will be eligible to play immediately thanks to the NCAA graduate waiver rule, which allows a player to transfer after graduation to a program that offers a master's degree his or her previous institution did not have.

The 6-foot-3 guard becomes one of three upperclassmen on a roster that brings in six freshmen. He will also shore up a backcourt that lost two players, Remy Abell and Maurice Creek, who decided to transfer this offseason.
