Saint Francis gets transfer

Former Elkhart Memorial basketball standout Akyah Taylor has decided to transfer from Michigan State to Saint Francis, the school announced Thursday.

The 5-foot-11 redshirt freshman forward/center will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Cougars.

"Our staff and the team is excited to have Akyah joining our program," Saint Francis women's basketball coach Gary Andrews said in a statement. "Along with her athleticism and basketball talent, she's got a great personality, and I expect her to fit in well with the rest of the team. She's a great addition to a talented core of returning and incoming players."

Taylor scored a school-record 1,719 points at Elkhart Memorial and was named All-State.

Taylor played in 16 games last season at Michigan State and had 26 points and 36 rebounds. She played in one game in 2011-12 before redshirting.
