  • Overmatched Ritz failing the public
Education is one of the most important functions of our state government, and yet State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz continues to treat educational policy like it is her own political soapbox.
  • Inconsistent upkeep plagues I-469 stretches
I see a disparity in the condition of the Interstate 469 bypass from the north/northeast section in comparison to the south/southwest section.
  • Common Core disaster predictable, avoidable
The debate over Common Core in relation to teaching and learning effectiveness has presented a major distraction for teachers and building leaders.

Cheers & jeers

CHEERS to Tara Sanders, who found and returned my lost wallet. I looked everywhere and gave up. I notified the bank and credit card companies. Late that day a young woman from Steak-N-Shake called me and said she had found my wallet. She took the time to Google my name and got my number. I will be forever grateful to her for taking the time to return it. She also would not take anything for her trouble. I think she should be nominated for employee of the month. Thank you once again.

CHEERS for The Journal Gazette’s editorial May 7 about former Gov. Otis R. Bowen’s creed as a first-term legislator.

I had the high honor of serving on the Governor’s Task Force for Employment of the Handicapped as the District IV youth representative. In addition, my company received the Governor’s Voluntary Action Program Honor Award in January of 1976.

I will miss him as a Republican voice of reason. His stand with C. Everett Koop on the use of condoms for prevention of STD would have made him unpopular with today’s Republican party.

JEERS to the barber. Sherman Boulevard was closed near the 3 Rivers Co-op Natural Grocery & Deli due to a major fire in the area. I was always taught not to cross such a barrier. So I parked across from the co-op and was told in a nasty manner by a barber standing outside the shop to move if I was going to go across the street. So not neighborly.

CHEERS to The Journal Gazette for its 150-year anniversary.

I hope there are thousands and thousands of people who enjoy and appreciate The Journal Gazette as much as I do.
