Saints capture tennis sectional

– Bishop Dwenger beat Concordia 3-2 to win the Concordia girls tennis sectional championship Friday.

The Saints got wins from Alex Yoder at No. 2 singles 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, and both doubles positions, with Audrey Rang and Elizabeth Maxson at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0 and Amanda Brown and Claudia Barbieri at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3.

For Concordia, Morgan Schlagenhauf won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 and Lauren Krull at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0.

The Saints won their third straight sectional and advance to the Homestead Regional semifinals against Huntington North on Tuesday.

Baseball

ADAMS CENTRAL 12, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 1: Conner Lengerich and Isaac Soldner each had five RBI for the host Flying Jets.

Adams Central is ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A poll.

CARROLL 5, CONCORDIA 4: The visiting Chargers held off the Cadets to pick up the win.

Carroll led 5-0 before Concordia scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings. Grant Inman had a home run and picked up the win.

COLUMBIA CITY 9, NORTHROP 7: The visiting Eagles got home runs from Jordan Bickle and Connor Reed in the win.

Tyler Huth had a home run for Northrop, while Colin Brockhouse got two doubles.

HERITAGE 10, CANTERBURY 2: Kyle Macke was 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the host Patriots. Ben Yurkain knocked in both Canterbury runs.

Softball

WOODLAN 7, ANTWERP, OHIO 0: A day after getting her 1,000th career strikeout, Hannah Robbins pitched a no-hitter for the visiting Warriors.

Robbins struck out 16 against Antwerp to up her career total to 1,016.

HOMESTEAD 19, NEW HAVEN 1: Kelly Rosenbaum entered in the first inning and finished off a five-inning no-hitter for the host Spartans.

Rosenbaum replaced Alexis Vargo, who gave up a run and walked three batters.

COLUMBIA CITY 6, GARRETT 5: The Eagles scored in the top of the eighth inning for the road victory.

Columbia City led 4-0 after the first and 5-2 until Garrett scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.

Garrett got home runs from Ashley Morris and Amber Poling.

NORWELL 7, BLACKFORD 6: The Knights built a 7-0 lead in the third inning and held on for the road win.

Blackford scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings and four in the fifth.

Tennis

HUNTINGTON NORTH 3, ADAMS CENTRAL 2: The Vikings won two three-setters at doubles to win the Norwell Sectional.

Mariah Zumbrun and Ashley Bard won at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, while Ana Eckert and Emily Karst won at No. 2 doubles 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. The Vikings advance to the Homestead Regional on Tuesday against Bishop Dwenger.

WARSAW 4, WAWASEE 1: The Tigers beat the Warriors in the finals of the Warsaw Sectional for their 13th straight sectional title.

Warsaw advances to the Culver Academics Regional on Tuesday to face Plymouth.

The Tigers got singles wins from Jacqueline Sasso at No. 2 and Lindsay Sciarra at No. 3, and got doubles wins from Marley Smith and Olivia Wallin at No. 1 and Camille Kerlin and Rosie Fleming at No. 2.

ANGOLA 4, FREMONT 1: The Hornets beat the Eagles in the finals of the Angola Sectional.

Angola (13-1) advances to the semifinals of the Northridge Regional on Tuesday.
