3-year sentence given for role in gang rape at party

FORT WAYNE – A former University of Saint Francis student was given a three-year sentence, with one year served and two years on probation, this morning in Allen Superior Court for his role in a 2011 sexual assault.

Troy Turner, 23, was one of three men accused in the fall 2011 attack on a woman at a house party near the University of Saint Francis. He pleaded guilty in December to a Class D felony charge of sexual battery.

Earlier this month, Austin Bower, 23, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to rape. Six years will be served behind bars, and the other four years will be suspended and served on probation.

On Thursday, the last defendant, Alex Beierwalter, also 23, will be sentenced after he pleaded guilty to criminal deviate conduct, a Class B felony.

The woman called police from a bathroom, where she had taken refuge after she said she was sexually assaulted at the home. The woman said she had consumed a lot of vodka and felt ill and went to lie down. The next thing she remembered was someone pulling down her pants and underwear.
