Carroll's a 'title school'

Carroll has been a hotbed of championships this spring.

The Chargers won an NHC championship in every spring sport – baseball, softball, girls tennis, girls track, boys track and boys golf.

And they won titles in at least three sectionals -- in softball, girls tennis and boys track.

On Saturday, the girls tennis advanced to the state finals with a 4-1 semistate win over Northridge at Concordia.

"(No. 1 singles player) Rachel (Sutton) came up to me and said 'coach we are celebrities,' " Carroll girls tennis coach Kyle Stoffel said of all the success. "I asked her what she meant. Sutton said 'a kid I don't even know came up to me and said aren't you that really good tennis player?' It is cool to get the recognition. They deserve it.

"It's not just these seven players (on the tennis team) and it is not just the coaches and it is not just Pine Ridge, and it is not just parents. There are so many factors that go in to it."

There could be more success on the horizon for Carroll teams, the baseball team in the sectional Monday, the softball team playing in the regionals Tuesday, the golf team in sectionals Friday and members of the boys and girls track teams headed to the state finals Friday and Saturday.
