Canterbury sophomore wins title

Canterbury sophomore Leah Barnes is two victories away from reaching the individual state girls tennis finals.

Barnes defeated Huntington North’s Kylie Fredrick 6-0, 6-1 on Friday to win the individual title in the Homestead Sectional.

Barnes (22-0) will play in the individual regionals June 1 at Kokomo with a chance to advance to the state finals on June 7 and 8 in Indianapolis.


EASTBROOK 12, WHITKO 7: Zach Snep’s home run and Ryan Weigold’s double were not enough for the Wildcats in the Class 3A Bellmont Sectional semifinals. Eastbrook will play Norwell in the title game at 1 p.m. Monday.


CARROLL 148, CONCORDIA 170, WOODLAN 181: Garrett Leeper shot a 1-under 35 to lead the Chargers in the three-way match at Foster Park.

Joey Justice had a 37, and Stephen Shupert and Jake Ramsey each had 38s for Carroll.


EASTBROOK 3, HERITAGE 1: Jennifer Dowler had a triple, but the Patriots fell in the Class 4A Norwell Sectional title game.
