TinCaps trail 1-0 through 3 innings

A couple of defensive gems highlight a 1-0 game at Parkview Field. The TinCaps trail West Michigan early.

Fort Wayne starter Joe Ross gave up one run, three hits and one walk in the first three innings. It could have been worse had right fielder Brian Adams not come up with a stellar play on a ground ball single.

Adams picked up the ball with Whitecaps designated hitter Jeff Holm a couple steps past third base and on his way to the plate. Adams gunned it to catcher Dane Phillips, who recorded the putout and saved Fort Wayne a run.

The TinCaps have two hits, but West Michigan starter Endrys Briceno has cleaned up after his mistakes. Fort Wayne has grounded out six times in the first three innings, and both hits have been infield singles.
