    Citing sustained success and an "amazing" commitment to community service, the online trade magazine Ballpark Digest recognized the TinCaps as its 2014 team of the year.
  • Ex-TinCap Mallex Smith voted minors' top offensive player
    Mallex Smith, who was the TinCaps' center fielder for the 2013 season and the first half of 2014, was voted by fans as the top offensive player in the minor leagues during the past season.

MWL All-Star Baltz put on disabled list

Midwest League All-Star selection and designated hitter Jeremy Baltz was put on the Fort Wayne disabled list today, retroactive to June 4, the TinCaps announced.

Baltz, 22, had suffered a groin injury. He last played May 28 and was tied for the team lead in home runs and its leader in RBI.

Outfielder Wynton Bernard, who was with the San Diego Padres' Short Season affiliate in Eugene, Ore., will take Baltz's spot on the roster.

The addition of Baltz puts four players on the DL for Fort Wayne, including pitchers Ruben Mejia and Tayron Guerrero, as well as third baseman Gabriel Quintana.
