Out of here

The Blob is about to take a few days off, so carry on with your lives, citizens.

But first, a couple of thoughts, in no particular order ...

* Patrick Kane's hat trick ensured us our first all-Original Six Stanley Cup finals since 1979, which seems unfathomable but, for that very reason, is also totally awesome. Equally unfathomable: The Bruins and Blackhawks have never met in a Stanley Cup finals before.

This time?

The Fearless Blob Prediction says Bruins in six. You may take that with the grain of salt it deserves.

* Your Well, Duh news item for the week?

That would be Leo and Huntington North joining whatever they're going to call the re-constituted Northeast Hoosier Conference.

Demographically, geographically and in every other way, it makes all kinds of sense. Leo had outgrown the ACAC, and Huntington North in the North Central Conference never made much sense, especially from a travel standpoint. Marion was relatively close, but Richmond, New Castle, Anderson et al were a haul. And, except for Marion, Huntington North never had much of an athletic history with any of them.

The only real surprise here, depending on whom you ask, was that Concordia wasn't part of the mix. That would have been another good demographic and geographic fit -- the Cadets were a member of the NHC's forerunner, the NEIAC, back in the day -- but opinion is mixed on whether or not Concordia really needed to move out of the SAC.

It is, after all, competitive in everything but football. Do you shift conferences just for football?

The $64,000 question.

And with that, I'm out. Feel free to talk among yourselves.

But no gum-chewing. That'll get you sent straight to the principal's office.
