New date set for Notre Dame's 2014 game at Arizona State

Notre Dame will travel to the desert in 2014.

Arizona State announced Tuesday that it reached an agreement with the Irish to keep the football teams' game in Tempe, Ariz., on the schedule in 2014.

"We're pleased that Notre Dame was able to resolve its scheduling issues in a way that allows it to play at Sun Devil Stadium in 2014," Arizona State athletic director Steve Patterson said in a statement. "The game will now be played on Nov. 8, 2014. Our entire Sun Devil family – season ticket holders, fans, students, alumni – and our entire community here in the Valley have been looking forward to playing Notre Dame in Tempe since the original agreement was signed in 2008."

The Irish's trip to Arizona State was in doubt when Notre Dame reached an agreement to join the Atlantic Coast Conference in all sports except football and hockey. As part of the deal, the Irish agreed to play five ACC opponents each season starting in 2014.

Notre Dame had asked Arizona State to drop the Irish's trip to Tempe to accommodate its new schedule. But the Sun Devils didn't want to give up the Irish's visit, which was originally set for Oct. 25, 2014.

As part of Notre Dame's agreement to play Arizona State in 2014, the teams canceled Arizona State's game at Notre Dame Stadium in 2017.

Notre Dame and Arizona State will play this season on Oct. 5 in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as part of the Irish's "Shamrock Series."
