Fort Wayne beat Lake County 7-4 on Tuesday at Parkview Field to clinch the divisional wild card and earn a first-half bid to the Midwest League playoffs.
TinCaps starter Zach Eflin gave up three runs in the first three innings, but settled in during his next three. He gave up seven hits and struck out five with one earned run to his credit and picked up the win.
Meanwhile, the TinCaps (40-23) lit up Lake County's pitching. Starter Ryan Merritt went five innings and surrendered 11 hits and four earned runs in a loss for the Captains.
Shortstop Maxx Tissenbaum went 4-for-5 to lead the TinCaps, who batted .421 in 38 at-bats against Lake County (20-41).
Closer Roman Madrid picked up his 12th save of the season for the TinCaps, who have won nine straight games and are 16-1 since May 26.
