Fire heavily damages Miner Street kitchen

Four people safely escaped a Miner Street house fire that heavily damaged the kitchen of the residence, Fort Wayne firefighters said today.

No one was injured, and the fire remains under investigation, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said in a statement.

Firefighters were called to 2525 Miner St. shortly before 2 p.m. when an occupant attempted to extinguish a kitchen fire, but was unable to do so, the statement said.

It said firefighters found a gas-fed fire in the kitchen of the two-story home that extended into an interior wall. The fire was controlled within about 20 minutes.

The home sustained heavy smoke damage and moderate fire and water damage, the statement said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants, firefighters said.
