Anyone who wants to dispose of old credit cards, papers or other items containing personal information can get them destroyed courtesy of the Indiana State Police and others.
State police, the U.S. Postal Service and other organizations will hold a “Shred It Day” on Saturday at the parking lot of Afdent Dental Services in Fort Wayne.
The event is aimed at preventing identity theft by keeping documents out of the hands of thieves who dig through people’s trash.
U.S. Postal Inspector Andrew Gottfried says identity thieves can obtain useful data from all sorts of documents, even labels that may seem harmless.
There is no charge for the service.
