Works board OKs North Anthony sewer contract

– The Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved a contract with A&Z Engineering to design combined sewer-overflow relief for part of the Northside neighborhood.

City Utilities’ Kelly Bajic said the project will install 5,000 feet of 24-inch and 48-inch sewer line between North Anthony and Oswego Avenue, which runs along the St. Joseph River near Parnell Avenue.

She said the new sewer lines will pick up wet-weather flows that now go to a combined sewer system that can overflow during heavy rains, sending sanitary sewage into the St. Joseph River.

Because of the many businesses along North Anthony in the area, such as Firefly and Old Crown Coffee Roasters, Bajic said the work will be coordinated to minimize service disruptions.

The project is expected to be designed by December and construction could take place next year.

The contract must also be approved by the City Council.
