Notre Dame adds specialist to recruiting class

Notre Dame added a specialist to its 2014 recruiting class.

Tyler Newsome, a punter and kicker from Carrollton (Ga.) High School, announced on his Twitter account Friday that he orally committed to the Irish.

"Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame. What a blessing. #FightingIrish," Newsome wrote.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is the 12th member of Notre Dame's 2014 recruiting class.

He is the first specialist to receive a scholarship since Notre Dame signed long snapper Scott Daly in 2012. Kyle Brindza, a kicker and punter, accepted a scholarship in 2011.
