2 arrested in Bixler Lake meth bust in Kendallville

A man and woman were arrested Thursday after a suspicious odor led a state trooper to a methamphetamine operation at Bixler Lake Park in Kendallville, police said.

Trooper John Silver of the Indiana State Police was patrolling Bixler Lake Park when he smelled a strong chemical odor about 1:15 p.m., police said.

He saw a man and woman inside a black Chevrolet pickup truck. As Silver pulled up near the truck, the man and woman got out and Silver realized the odor was coming from the vehicle, police said.

The officer saw items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine in the bed of the truck. Inside the vehicle were two bags containing meth making materials, including sulfuric acid, police said.

The search also turned up meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Kevin L. Frane, 41, of Kendallville, and Susan Holliday, 41, of Rome City, were arrested.

Frane is charged with three felonies: possession of meth within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession of precursors with intent to manufacture meth and maintaining a common nuisance. He's also charged with two misdemeanors: Marijuana possession and possession of paraphernalia.

Holliday is charged with possession of meth within 1,000 feet of a public park and visiting a common nuisance, both felonies.
