Swimmer, 70, pulled from area lake dies

A 70-year-old Warsaw man died after he went underwater while swimming from a pontoon boat on Little Chapman Lake on Tuesday, authorities said.

Edward Hundley’s body was found Wednesday morning. He was on a pontoon boat with one other person when he decided to go swimming and climbed into the water. A short time later, he went underwater and didn’t surface, Indiana conservation officers said.

Two people on a nearby pontoon and a witness on shore told officers that Hundley went missing about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Divers from Kosciusko County’s Dive Team searched the water for several hours until severe weather forced them out of the lake shortly before sunset Tuesday, said Ken Dowdle, a state conservation officer.

Lightning forced divers to remain out of the water until about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Divers pulled Hundley’s body from the lake at 10:54 a.m.

The county coroner will determine the cause of death, he said.
