Police standoff ends in Paulding shooting

A Paulding County man was shot by at least one police officer after he barricaded himself in a home, armed with handguns, police said.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said officers went to a home in the 4000 block of County Road 95 at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday on a call about a suicidal subject armed with a gun.

After several hours of negotiations between the man and police, members of the Allen County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Office SWAT team entered the home and the man fired his weapon at officers, police said.

At least one officer returned fire, striking the man. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for the injuries, police said.

The case remains under investigation, and no additional information was available Wednesday, police said.
