State gets $2.3 million for jobless training

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana will receive $2.3 million in federal funds to retrain laid-off workers so they can get new jobs.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Wednesday that the money was part of $58 million in grants to 30 states by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Workforce Development spokesman Joe Frank said Indiana’s share is the second-largest per-capita allocation of the funding. It represents 4 percent of the total funds.

The new money will be paid out during a two-year period.

The funds will go toward education or on-the-job training programs.
