I-65 speeder had 5 pounds of heroin, police say

Associated Press

REMINGTON, Ind. – State Police say a trooper who stopped a motorist for going nearly 100 mph along a northern Indiana highway found more than 5 pounds of suspected heroin hidden inside the vehicle.

The trooper stopped the motorist Sunday for traveling 97 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone near Interstate 65’s Remington exit.

Police said 26-year-old motorist Pedro A. Burgos of Miami acted suspiciously and a police dog detected the possible presence of drugs in his car.

The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/16ja72T) that a subsequent search of the car revealed suspected heroin in four packages hidden inside the back panel of the front passenger seat with a possibly street value of $120,000.

Burgos was being held Monday at the Jasper County Jail on preliminary drug charges and speeding.
