Two men were formally charged Thursday with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of a man found wounded outside a Jimmerson Lake home, Steuben County Prosecutor Michael Hess said.
Mark Hines and Tyler Biggs, both from Fremont, were being held without bail Thursday evening at the Steuben County Jail.
Witnesses told investigators that Hines, 28, and Biggs, 18, got into a fight with Ruben Sanchez Jr., 29. Afterward, Biggs retrieved a handgun for Hines, who shot Sanchez three times during a second confrontation, Hess said earlier.
The shooting took place about 3 a.m. Sunday at 220 Lane 355 Jimmerson Lake. Sanchez, from Muncie, was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he died from his injuries, the sheriffs department said.
Before formal charges were filed Thursday, Hines faced a preliminarily charge of murder, and Biggs was preliminarily charged with aiding in murder.
