IPFW said today that Athletlc Director Tommy Bell will step down later this summer to take a similar position at Western Illinois.
"Tommy has been with IPFW for six years and in that time has helped usher Athletics into a new era with marked successes, including a record 2012-2013 season," Chancellor Vicky Carwein said in a statement. "We wish him the best as he takes on a new role and are looking forward to many more Athletics department successes."
Bell said he was excited to be starting a new chapter in his career, and said he was grateful for the opportunity to have succeeded at IPFW.
"My family and I have made many great friends at IPFW, and wish the university and the athletic department nothing but the best going forward," he said.
Since 2007, IPFW has had six NCAA tournament berths, five regular-season Summit League championships, 13 players of the year, six coaches of the year and three Academic All-Americans, the university said.
During the next few weeks, a transition plan will be developed and an interim director of athletics and recreation will be named, the university said. Its search for a new director is to begin immediately.
