Open house celebrates vacant building’s rebirth

Columbia City officials are celebrating a $1 million business investment that has transformed a vacant, 70-year-old building into an active operation.

Novae Corp. moved into the building more than 18 months ago, but the place is only now fit for company, President Steve Bermes said.

The Whitley County Economic Development Corp. is hosting an open house at 1 p.m. Friday at the plant, 643 W. Ellsworth St., Columbia City.

The company, which employs about 350 in northeast Indiana, makes open and closed utility trailers, commercial lawn equipment, and agricultural and industrial material handling systems.
