Big 4th puts Quad Cities ahead

No. 1 overall pick Mark Appel was the story coming into today's game.

The River Bandits offense forced itself into the conversation.

Quad Cities put together a three-run fourth inning off of TinCaps starter Matthew Shepherd. That frame helped the River Bandits to a 5-3 lead after six innings.

Appel went four innings and gave up three earned runs, one on a two-run shot in the second and the other a solo home run from third baseman Gabriel Quintana.

Joe Church came on in relief for Fort Wayne with two outs in the fourth, and Daniel Minor for the River Bandits. Neither has given up a run.
