The Allen County SPCA, in response to an overpopulation of cats in Fort Wayne this summer, has reduced its regular feline adoption fee from $70 to $10 with approved applications.
Initially we were offering the $10 feline adoptions on Fridays only, but the program has been so successful that we felt we should extend it to every day this summer, said Jessica Henry, the shelter director.
Spring and summer seasons see an enormous influx of kittens, and shelters are inundated with requests for help. The more animals we can spay/neuter and find homes for, the more open spaces well have to intake cats and kittens from the community, Henry said.
All cats at the Allen County SPCA shelter, 4914 S. Hanna St., have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The $10 adoption fee applies to felines at the shelter or the adoption centers in PetSmart on Lima Road or at Apple Glen. Reduced adoption fees will last through Labor Day. The shelter is open 11 a.m. to 5p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
