FORT WAYNE –
Some neighbors reported seeing the man involved in an argument the night before.
Though the disturbance was never reported to police, a fight erupted in a nearby alley the night before and the man was believed to have been involved, witnesses told police.
Other neighbors said he frequently slept outside – just like he was found Thursday afternoon.
The man was pronounced dead behind a home at 1707 High St. on the city's near-northwest side shortly after 12:30 p.m.
His death was ruled "suspicious in nature" as police examined the scene to gather details.
The man had an injury, but police declined to elaborate or say whether it might have caused his death.
It also wasn't clear Thursday how long the man had been in the backyard, and some people questioned whether he had been there all night.
"It is possible," said Raquel Foster, Fort Wayne Police Department spokeswoman.
A neighbor told police she had seen the man lying on the ground earlier in the day but didn't immediately call police because it was "normal for him to be lying around like that," Foster added.
More details are expected after the man has been identified by the Allen County Coroner's Office, officials said.
Anyone with information about the man's death is asked to call Fort Wayne police at 260-427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
