In-state targets

– Some of the best players in the state stepped into the gym Thursday at Ben Davis High School.

So did college programs from across the nation.

Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Iowa, Florida State, Auburn, Northwestern, IPFW were among those at the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 100 Underclassmen Showcase.

Many players took advantage of the opportunity to put their abilities on display with those programs looking on.

Here’s a look at some of the top targets for in-state colleges:

Sean Sellers

High school: Greensburg

Year: Senior

Height/weight: 6-foot-6, 175 pounds

Position: Forward

The skinny: Sellers has had the Mastodons on his radar for some time, and interest picked up after a strong showing at the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis last week. Butler is also on Sellers’ trail.

Eron Gordon

High school: North Central

Year: Sophomore

Height/weight: 6-2, 170

Position: Guard

The skinny: The younger brother of Eric and Evan Gordon, Eron is used to playing older competition and competing against bigger players. Gordon has heard from the Hoosiers, Boilermakers, Nebraska and Arizona State. He continues to project as one of the best players in his class nationally.

Gary Bonds

High school: Scecina Memorial, Indianapolis

Year: Junior

Height/weight: 6-7, 175

Position: Forward

The skinny: Bonds’ height and frame translate to the small forward spot at the college level, but to play on the perimeter, he must focus on his ball handling and shooting ability. Bonds said he’s been working on both, and his three-point shooting has improved tremendously since the spring. The junior said IU, Wright State and Butler are in touch.

Ryan Fazekas

High school: Marquette Catholic

Year: Junior

Height/weight: 6-7, 175

Position: Forward

The skinny: Fazekas built on his reputation as a shooting threat and also displayed some versatility Thursday. Fazekas has offers from Providence and Valparaiso, as well as interest from IU and Purdue.

Brennan Gillis

High school: Ben Davis

Year: Junior

Height/weight: 6-6, 205

Position: Forward

The skinny: Gillis makes up for a lack of height with physical play, and he drilled well during the camp. The forward broke out of his “tweener” stereotype with some play away from the rim. Purdue coach Matt Painter watched him closely.
