Crossroads Classic to continue through 2016

Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame and Butler will continue to play in the Crossroad Classic basketball event through 2016, the universities announced Monday.

The Classic, which began in 2011, will continue to be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Purdue will play Butler and Indiana plays Notre Dame on Dec. 19, 2015, and Purdue takes on Notre Dame and Butler plays Indiana on Dec. 17, 2016.

This year's Classic is set for Dec. 14 with Indiana and Notre Dame squaring off in the first game at 3:15 p.m. and Purdue playing Butler at 6 p.m. The Hoosiers' game against the Irish will be on ESPN, and the Boilermakers' game against the Bulldogs will be on the Big Ten Network.

The 2014 Classic will be on Dec. 20 with Purdue playing Notre Dame and Butler taking on Indiana.

"I think I speak for my three colleagues when I say that while we envisioned the Crossroads Classic being a success, its popularity the first two years has exceeded our expectations," Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke said in a news release. "As a result, it was an easy decision to once again extend the agreement. We have a great partnership with Bankers Life Fieldhouse and our television partners and hope this budding holiday tradition continues to grow."
