Hanging killed inmate in DeKalb

A DeKalb County jail inmate committed suicide by hanging, the Allen County Coroner’s Office has ruled.

Jessie J. Roby, 26, of Waterloo was pronounced dead at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Parkview Regional Medical Center, the coroner’s office said.

DeKalb Sheriff Don Lauer said Roby was found unconscious in his cell Saturday night by confinement officers.

Roby had recently been sentenced to two years on an arson conviction, Lauer said.

The case remains under investigation by the coroner’s office, the DeKalb sheriff’s department and the Indiana State Police.
