Painting the town
I was seeing things, I was sure.
I was driving home from work, the window was cracked to let in a pleasant breeze. Peter Sagal, a runner himself, was cracking jokes on the "Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me" podcast I was playing.
As I approached South Side High School, a spray-painted orange arrow was directing me ro turn right. Another, was pointing straight. Was Calhoun Street due for construction work?
I pushed my oversized sunglasses off my face to get a better look. Lo and behold, the course markers for Fort4Fitness are already being made. At the lovely spot I was passing, the 4-mile runners/walkers are turning right onto Packard Avenue.
The PR Training Group that meets on Saturdays is starting its periodic training runs Saturday on the Fort4Fitness courses. Runners will meet at Baker Street Train Station, 221 W. Baker St., at 7 a.m. There are the 4-, 6-, 10- and 13-mile loops that can be run. If you need a course map, arrive a few minutes early.
The Three Rivers Running Company Fort4Fitness training group will be meeting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Kreager Park, off North River Road.
Find your race
I know a lot of runners like to use local races as training runs to stay motivated and accountable.
This weekend, there are a few 5Ks, including The Color Run (though I wouldn't recommend this as a training run -- just for fun).
